Tom was born and raised in nearby Meridian and has always had a passion for the outdoors lifestyle. But for many years, he was away from the land he loved while carving his own path as a top business executive. Tom started his career at Wal-Mart as an Assistant Manager Trainee and with his strong work ethic and drive to succeed, he quickly became the youngest Store Manager in the company’s history. Two years later, he was promoted to District Manager and soon worked his way up to Vice President of Operations. In the process, Tom became one of Sam Walton’s most trusted executives (and a great friend). In his 15 years with Wal-Mart, Tom helped launch the company’s first ever “Super Centers” and was instrumental to the incredible growth of the corporation. From his mentoring relationship with Sam, he learned the true value of integrity and how to run a business the right way. “Sam always said ‘trust everyone until they give you a reason not to,’” Tom says. “These are words I’ve always taken to heart, as I firmly believe in treating people the way they deserve to be treated.”

Coming Home

Tom went on to hold high level positions with Home Depot, Fry’s Electronics, Bradlees and W.H. Smith, forcing him to move to 11 different states and travel all over the world. Though the work was exciting, he longed to get back to his Mississippi roots, buy a plot of land and make the most of life with his wife, Ellen, and their two daughters, Kathleen and Samantha. Tom decided to combine his two biggest passions—business and nature—and became a real estate professional specializing in raw land and recreational homes on acreage.
